Notifications for events via email (per calendar option)
Gmail style notifications via email for calendar events would be absolutely fabulous. The time on which the email should be sent could be identical to the reminder set up for an event.
A checkbox option could enable or disable this feature for each calendar.
YES! Please! My phone only let's me set up an alert up to a maximum of 1 week in advance. For some things an even sooner alert would be great!

The time the email alert is sent should preferably be separately configurable from the reminder. Google even allows multiple email alerts sent at different times, a feature I regularly use.
I forgot to mention above: The notification should be sent server side and not client side.
